The Cascade Bicycle Club is holding a safety-information fair 4-6 p.m. Tuesday in Seattle's Sam Smith Park near the I-90 bike tunnel in Seattle's Mount Baker area. The site is where a cyclist reported being punched and robbed last week by two men wearing hockey masks.
In the past year, there have been at least six crimes or attempted crimes against cyclists in that area, according to M.J. Kelly, club communications director. The latest was two days ago when a different bike commuter was blocked by two men in black but turned in time to avoid being attacked, Kelly said.
The club is talking with police about how to improve safety in the area and is encouraging people to ride there in groups, she said.
