We Strike Again
Angela, the VooDoo / Recycled Cycles rider took the pro women High Cascades 100. As in 100 miles. As in damn near 12 hours with the heat and the hills of Bend to contend with. Props. The creepy thing is she usually smiles while she's doing shit like this.

On Deck...............
Just wrapped up the last Fluidride cup race last weekend in Port Angeles. Very good stuff. I'm sure Pink Bike will have pics up soon, I only bring dead cameras to bike races! You may even see a pic or two of yours truly in the first loser spot rocking it with the DWB crew, which took home plenty of hardware as well as consuming more intoxicating substances than other group out there. Of that I am sure.
Next weekend word has it that a certain Pauli G. will have a quiver of the 2010 DiamondBack Sorties and Missions for the kids to play with. I need to get on a Scapegoat. Speaking of 2010 DB, there is a nice article on all the hard work that goes into these two wheeled wonders in the most recent Bike magazine, check that shit out. I wish they would have had one in the test ride group because they ride supremely, more on that later this week as I give the 2009 review and full on test feedback on a certain Sortie Black that suffered under me this whole year.
The Labor Day weekend will be reserved for Whistler, enough said on that. Three days of that and I think my hands will truly evolve into meat hooks.
The following weekend is a Super D in Mt. Hood, where the Sortie Del Negro will once again be put to the test. More info:

I'm not editing that shit so it is pretty. Just not doing it. Break out your decipher kits.
Weekend after is a Super D + XC + BBQ + rally fest in the Olympics done by the very good people at FOCF. To those of you who need to go to Starcrossed, I am truly sorry for you.
The weekend of the 26th & 27th is the last Fluidride cup race of the season at Mt. Hood, should be a doozie! Race fast on Sunday, grap some freebies at the raffle, pray for podium and hit the Acrop for the victory steak. I'm not explaining that one.
The next weekend is the MTB XC race in Winthrop, which is always cool. Fishing, bike racing, beer drinking, hot springs, goodbye to summer. Then I guess there's nothing left to do but cross so why not? With Nats in Bend one would be remiss not to go around in circles and drink beer in the mud.

High Cascades 100
11 days until the High Cascades 100......is everyone ready for what is in store for you?
Details
Map has been updated online http://www.mudslingerevents.com/high-cascades-100/
Details are also available from the site as far as time cut off's, gear/bottle drop info for any of the 3 aide Stations
The Weekend
Packet Pickup at Sunnyside Sports 2-5pm Saturday 8/22 , all of you will have your custom race plate and swag bag waiting for ya. Custom socks and shirt and water bottle, along with local offers and some discounts/and great Hammer Nutrition products before, during and after the High Cascades 100.
The Race course...well marked first off....Not saying you will not have to pay attention, but I will be doing what I can to ensure a great well marked course...arrows, ribbon, ect
Litter.....I can't say this enough and sadly there was more wrappers left at the cream puff 100 last month than Scott and I thought would happen and this is something that could shut this event down quicker than anything...pack it out, dump your wrappers and such at aide stations.......PLEASE!
The Terrain.....here is the first 45 miles from my Garmin http://connect.garmin.com/activity/10892503
This will prove the most Rugged part of the event....and if you can get through this section and back to aide #2 in 7 hrs you should be good to up the pace in the second half of the race. Some of you will get back in under 6...maybe even quicker.....
The second part of the course is faster......shaded climb.....technical support from United Bicycle Institute of Ashland and Portland to do some repairs if you have problems above and beyond Lubing your chain in the am and at AIde #2...
The Finish.......get back to aide #3 by 6:30 and then finish the last 10 miles of singletrack and get your Custom Finisher award.....badge of honor and relax and have a half chicken dinner from Baldy's BBQ of Bend and a beverage. You have 14 hrs of daylight to finish...make the most of it and have fun. The Sun is down by 8:30
Your safety:
The am loop around Mt Bachelor has Kwohl Butte at mile 32 and a atv trail strewn with Lava for just over 2 miles of climbing and 4 miles going DH...its tough, fun, and quite an upper body workout.....do yourself a favor and do not attempt to bomb this lava strewn atv trail for 4 miles in record pace and crash and have to lifeflight you out......very remote, take 3-5 minutes of care and get down safe.....make sure to help each other out and be safe......everyone of us has skills, but one bowling ball sized Lava chunk could make for a bad experience.
Eugene MTN rescue will be at the aide stations to patch you up if necessary and we have full radio control from aide points
Water.....drink...be merry...HEED and water at all aide stations along with food.....make sure to hydrate......if you are peeing...you are good to go...well in that area at least

Your Bike, smile,sense of adventure
Sunscreen
A chair.....after the event relaxing

New bike bridge links Richmond, Vancouver
Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use a special walkway under the Canada Line's North Arm Bridge.
A new $10-million bike and pedestrian route linking Richmond and Vancouver will open Friday, three days ahead of the grand opening of the Canada Line, Metro Vancouver's new rapid-transit route.
The one-kilometre route hangs beneath the Canada Line's North Arm Bridge, which connects the Bridgeport and Marine Drive stations across the Fraser River south of Vancouver.
Arno Schortinghuis, president of the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition, said he's pleased to see the new bridge will keep cyclists away from traffic and out of the rain.
'You can actually get out of the rain, which is excellent.' —Arno Schortinghuis, Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition
"It will be a great experience," he said. "There won't be the traffic roaring by. There won't be the fumes. I think it will be an idyllic ride across the river.
"It's partially covered, so if there's wind from the east in the wintertime — and that's the typical direction of the wind — and it rains, you can actually get out of the rain, which is excellent. You're underneath and to one side of the guideway, so the trains will sort of rumble overhead."
For those who want to take their bikes on the train, the Canada Line trains are also designed to be very bicycle friendly, said TransLink spokesman Drew Snider.
"We'll be able to take bicycles on any direction any time of day — a slight deviation from the SkyTrain system, where they're not allowed during the peak periods and the peak direction," said Snider.
Metro Vancouver's newest addition to its rapid transit system, the Canada Line, will officially begin service on Aug. 17, more than three months earlier than originally scheduled. Passengers will be able to ride for free, but bikes will not be allowed on board on the first day of operations.
The new route connects Vancouver and Richmond and includes a stop at the Vancouver airport. It uses similar technology to the two existing SkyTrain routes.

Bike Sharing in Hilly and Rainy Seattle?
You've heard of Zip Car - the car sharing company in Seattle and other major cities. How about a bicycle-sharing program? They're thriving in places like Paris, Barcelona, Montreal, and even Denver where a pilot project is due to "go live" next year. But in hilly and rainy Seattle?Pearson Cummings with King County's Parks and Rec Division says the county is just trying to get locals used to the concept: "What will they use a bike sharing system for? Will they use it to go to their dentist office during work. Will they use it to go get grociers? Do they think bike sharing will work in the city?" King County, along with the Cascade Bicycle Club, the city of Redmond, and Vulcan held a Bike Share Expo Tuesday in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood. Three bike-sharing vendors were on hand to talk about public bike systems. There are a lot of questions still to be answered such as how much would it cost, and where would the bike stations be located. If Paris is any indication, lots of people like riding the public bikes down Paris's one big hill. As for getting the bikes back up that hill that's usually done by trucks.
Chain Fail
SRAM, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has announced a voluntary recall of the SRAM 10-Speed Chain PowerLock connector links.
SRAM reports that the PowerLock outer connector plate could crack during installation or early use, causing the chain to separate and leading to loss of bicycle control and possible injury. For this reason, SRAM is recalling and replacing all affected SRAM 10-Speed Chain PowerLock connector links.
In a document issued Friday to SRAM dealers, the company detailed the safety issue, rate of occurrence, and how to identify recalled PowerLocks connector links. The company was careful to note that only 10-speed PowerLocks, not chains, are targeted in the recall.
PowerLocks stamped with “M” and “N” date codes are the targets of the recall. The date code letter is stamped onto the end of each PowerLock outer plate, near the pin. Affected PowerLock connecter links include:
• Individually packaged, aftermarket PowerLocks,• PowerLocks included with aftermarket chains, and• PowerLocks installed on SRAM chains on new bikes could all potentially be affected.
The date code letter is stamped on each of the 2 outer plates on a PowerLock, so both connector link outer plates need to be checked for affected “M” or “N” date codes.
SRAM noted that the safety issue (cracking of the outer plate) typically happens upon installation of the PowerLock or during first use. The company also noted that the issue was discovered internally at SRAM, and that the recall originated internally out of concern for quality and customer safety. SRAM is working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to initiate a full consumer recall, which will be soon announced to the public.
Cyclists with PowerLocks affected by the recall should stop riding immediately and return the affected chain to a SRAM dealer for confirmation of the date code and a free replacement PowerLock.
SRAM 8- and 9-speed chains and PowerLinks are not affected, nor are 10-speed chains. The defect is limited to 10-speed PowerLock connector links only, at a rate of roughly 2.5 connector plates out of 1000.
